Style Guidelines
- Please ask for style guidelines from the editors when preparing your paper, rather than any published articles or a sample copy
- Please use American spelling style consistently throughout your manuscript
- Please use double quotation marks, except where “a quotation is ‘within’ a quotation”
- Please note that long quotations should be indented without quotation marks

By submitting you confirm that you understand this and that funding for the charge is available. See Article Processing Charge.

Peer Review Process
Review Type and Model
The JMHM employs single-anonymized (single-blind) peer review: reviewers know the identity of the authors, but the identity of the reviewers is not disclosed to the authors at any stage. Every research manuscript is assessed by at least two independent expert reviewers before an editorial decision is made.
Editorial Workflow
Initial Editorial Screening
- Editors-in-Chief or Associate Editors conduct preliminary assessment for scope alignment, basic quality standards, and adherence to submission guidelines
- Manuscripts failing initial screening are promptly rejected with constructive feedback
Reviewer Selection and Invitation
- Suitable manuscripts are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers from our international editorial board and external reviewer database
- Reviewers are selected based on subject expertise, interdisciplinary competence, independence from the authors and their mentors, and absence of conflicts of interest
- Invitation emails include the manuscript abstract and the expected review timeline
Peer Review Evaluation
- Reviewers receive the complete manuscript with a standardized evaluation form
- Assessment criteria include: originality, methodological rigor, interdisciplinary significance, clarity of presentation, ethical considerations, and contribution to field knowledge
- Reviewers provide detailed written reports with specific recommendations for acceptance, revision, or rejection
Editorial Decision Making
- Associate Editors compile reviewer reports and provide independent recommendations
- Editors-in-Chief make final editorial decisions based on reviewer feedback and editorial assessment
- Decision categories include: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject
Author Response and Revision
- Authors receive comprehensive feedback including anonymized reviewer reports and editorial comments
- Revised submissions must include detailed response letters addressing each reviewer concern
- Major revisions undergo additional peer review; minor revisions receive editorial review only
Final Decision and Publication
- Satisfactorily revised manuscripts receive final acceptance
- Accepted articles proceed to professional editing, formatting, and online publication
- Authors receive proofs for final approval before publication
Mentorship and Peer Review
As an education-oriented journal, JMHM encourages established scholars to mentor students and early-career researchers in developing rigorous research and preparing manuscripts for publication. To preserve the integrity and independence of the editorial process, mentorship and editorial evaluation are strictly separated. Editorial board members who have mentored, supervised, collaborated on, or otherwise contributed to a submitted manuscript will not participate in the selection of reviewers, peer review, editorial evaluation, or publication decision for the same manuscript. Such submissions are handled independently by an editor with no conflict of interest and undergo the same peer-review standards and editorial criteria as other submissions. Reviewers are likewise selected on the basis of relevant expertise and independence from the authors and their mentors.
Quality Assurance Measures
- Review Quality Monitoring: Editorial team monitors reviewer performance and feedback quality
- Conflict of Interest Management: Reviewers and editors declare and avoid conflicts of interest, as set out in the Publication Ethics and Editorial Policies
Ethical Standards
Our peer review process adheres to Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and maintains the highest standards of research integrity, confidentiality, and fair evaluation throughout all stages of manuscript assessment.
