Abstract

On the afternoon of July 8, 2024, Panel One, titled "Diversified Pathways of Health Communication through Social Media," was held at Peking University as part of the 7th International Academic Conference on "Medicine, Humanity, and Media." Five paper authors presented their research on various topics: the relationship between social media use related to health and participation in physical activities, the three-level agenda-setting for marginal health issues, the learning process within online support communities for family caregivers, the discussion and information diffusion patterns regarding cervical cancer prevention on Chinese social media, and the potential for urban tobacco control legislation in the era of smart media. The studies revealed the diversified roles of social media in health communication, including promoting participation in physical activities, raising public awareness of marginal health issues, supporting the learning process of family caregivers, depicting the current status and challenges of discussions on cervical cancer prevention, and exploring the influencing factors of urban tobacco control legislation. Professor Huang Yihui and Assistant Professor Jiang Shaohai provided comments and feedback on each researcher's presentation.
