Author Submission Guidelines

Please note the 8,000 word limit is inclusive of the abstract but exclusive of references, tables, figure/table captions, footnotes and endnotes.

Article Types

Original Articles

  • Should be written with the following elements in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figures; figure captions (as a list)
  • Should be no more than 8,000 words, inclusive of:
    • Abstract
  • Should contain an unstructured abstract of 200 words.
  • Should contain between 3 and 6 keywords. Read making your article more discoverable, including information on choosing a title and search engine optimization.
  • Please note the 8,000 word count is inclusive of the abstract but exclusive of references, tables, figure/table captions, footnotes and endnotes.

Other articles

Other articles are concise, thought-provoking perspectives that offer a global, local or novel lens on critical issues in health communication, public health, health systems, policy, digital transformation, ethics, health literacy, information quality and contemporary issues in politics, governance and health broadly including environmental and sustainability. Submissions are welcomed with unique ideas among multidisciplinary fields and applications in multiple contexts. These articles may offer qualitative or quantitative data with contributions that offer dialectic opportunities with debates, frameworks, and thought-provoking advancement of theory, practice and research in health communication, particularly in a time of rapid social and technological change. Author and Submission Guidelines: Length: 1000-2000 words References: Maximum of 5 authors and 10 references. Authors are encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief or Senior Editors with a brief pre-submission inquiry on the proposed article.

Style Guidelines

Please ask for style guidelines from the editors when preparing your paper, rather than any published articles or a sample copy.

Please use American spelling style consistently throughout your manuscript.

Please use double quotation marks, except where “a quotation is ‘within’ a quotation”.

Please note that long quotations should be indented without quotation marks.

Formatting and Templates

Papers may be submitted in Word format. Please do not submit your paper as a PDF. Figures should be saved separately from the text.
